Helping Hand for One of Our Own
SEPTEMBER
2008
Three weeks ago, Billy Jarvis,
Manager of Aftermarket Sales at Albuquerque Freightliner, was
diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. Billy is only 34 years old,
with a wife, Angie, and four young boys ranging in age from 14
months to 12 years old. As many who are familiar with cancer
already know, pancreatic cancer is one of the most life
threatening types of cancer one can endure. Although doctors
are cautiously optimistic about Billy’s prognosis, Billy is in
for the fight of his life.
Billy and his family recently
relocated to Albuquerque from El Paso so he could take the job
at Albuquerque Freightliner. Billy was excited to be working at
the dealership and was already making a difference when he got
the diagnosis.
Billy is currently at M.D. Anderson
Cancer Center in Houston, TX where he is undergoing aggressive
chemotherapy and radiation treatment for the next 5 weeks.
Surgery is scheduled for later next month followed by 6-8 weeks
of recovery.
We have been asked by many
employees, customers and vendors if there is a way to help Billy
with his medical expenses as he goes through treatment at M.D.
Anderson. The William Jarvis Donation Fund has been established
at Wells Fargo Bank in Albuquerque to accept donations for
Billy. This account will be used to offset medical expenses and
manage the proceeds from any fund-raising efforts that a
location may choose to participate in to benefit Billy.
If you would like to contribute, you
may make your check payable to the William Jarvis Donation Fund
and mail it to: Wells Fargo, P.O. Box 5629, Portland, OR
97228-5629. To make it easy for you to donate,
please download and use one of the pre-printed deposit slips
with the account number 3266213077 on it.
In addition, the Lonestar Truck
Group has established a Leave Bank program which allows
employees to donate accumulated vacation time for use by other
employees in need whose paid time off has been exhausted. The
Leave Bank policy has all the details on how employees can
donate their unused vacation time to Billy who has already used
all of his paid time off for his medical leave.
It is our privilege to share Billy’s
story with all of you and to reach out to you to help and
support one of our own in his fight against cancer.
